chemo hair loss insurance petition

My name is Sharon and I am a client of The Joseph Paris Hair Salon. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and faced with chemotherapy in February 2007. All I could think of was my daughter being mortified by my appearance and me unable to face the world without hair. So I accepted the operation and denied the chemotherapy treatment.

My Senior Oncologist and Lead Surgeon talked to me every day for a month trying to convince me that my life was more important than hair loss. At the end of a long and grueling month, I conceded to interview one referral offered by the Oncologist. I stated, “If this specialist can show me a way to make my hair loss transitional, then I would agree to chemotherapy.” He reviewed his sheet of 25 wig and hair prosthesis specialists and offered me “The Joseph Paris Hair Salon.”

Mr. Paris was courteous, forthright and engaged me in conversation about my fear of hair loss. He began our meeting by introducing me to an array of hair prostheses: long, short, and curly, including a variety of textures and colors. Most intriguing was the lightweight scalp-like lace onto which the hair is woven and the fact that he utilizes real hair. He further demonstrated how his product could be as easily managed as my own natural hair, either at home or within his salon, however often I chose. The final step was when Mr. Paris turned my chair away from the mirror and placed a hair prosthesis upon my head that transformed me into a “new vibrant me!” I was amazed and even more amazing I liked me better.

At that moment, I looked Mr. Paris in the eye and said SOLD! I called my Oncologist and said I was returning to his office so that we could put together a schedule to commence my chemotherapy. I received a call from The Joseph Paris Hair Salon approximately 4 weeks from date of order, and the next morning I experienced hair loss. The timing could not have been more succinct. This time, when Mr. Paris turned my chair away from the mirror, it was to shave the remaining strands of hair and to adjust my perfectly fitted hair prosthesis.

The final product was natural looking and beautiful and even more comfortable because it was custom designed to fit the shape of my head. The method of attachment allows me to wear it 24 hours a day. I sleep in it, bathe, shower and swim in either the ocean or pool. I visit Mr. Paris’ salon weekly for his specialist to remove, wash, readjust and restyle my prosthesis just as I would visit my regular hair stylist with natural hair.

My annual anniversary will be April 2008 and although I have grown a full head of nourished hair, I continue to wear my hair prosthesis because with it every day is a good hair day. Most importantly, it promotes healthy hair growth by protecting my natural hair from outside pollutants and the stress of daily styling, and no one, including my daughter, is aware. This product has allowed me to focus on my health while maintaining a healthy vibrant glow and the dignity to face my family, friends and colleagues. I pray that others who are faced with medical challenges whether it is cancer, Alopecia, or simply for hereditary reasons, are given the opportunity to experience what The Joseph Paris Hair Salon can provide after hair loss.
